FOLLOW-UP ON MEI

"Hello, how are you?"

I didn't want to leave Mei in the lurch days after our meeting. With Kak Nor away and busy, it's my responsibility to check up on Mei's wellbeing. To show that we care and that we are supportive.
Hence, the phone call.

"Oh, it's you. I'm not very well, I need to ask you something."
She told me that she felt something is in her house with her. She had a nightmare last night and is rather afraid. For the first time, she heard a voice in the house. My heart froze.
"Did you experience the same thing before?" she asked.
So, I told her a nightmare I had before reverting to Islam, to help calm her down. I told her to pray to Allah and ask for His help for He is Al Knowing and All Powerfu (she said she prays but not 5 times a day). And I told her that sometimes 'the evil thing' will try to cause confusion to prevent somebody like Mei from seeking the true God. I told her to ignore the strange noise.

[Now I wouldn't have taken her words seriously if I had not had a mishap the day after I met her. Alhamdulillah I'm fine, and the car suffered some light body injuries but still, it was tough, expensive and trying handling everything on my own (husband's out of town). A coincidence? For me, it's another test of patience and faith, huhuhu]

Anyway, back to Mei.. I advised her to seek the ustaz and ustazah who referred her to me in case she's still afraid, as both Kak Nor and I are unable to meet her this weekend.
"Okay, okay.. I'll call you if I need advice, ok?"
And I answered,"Sure."
What do you think?

  1. er,

byk2 zikir and doa and pray.

I think it's syaitan who is trying to scare Mei.

Semoga ALLAH meguatkan hati Mei. InsyaALLAH.

  4. Assalamualaikum

kak Aliya, i sense something is mist. there maybe syaitan and jin involve in this peculiar events.

first on your part, try to practice reciting Ayatul Kursi, four Qul, and three of the last Ayat of Surah Al Baqarah, as these Ayat are bounty from beneath of Araysh Al Rahman. like shamsudin said you can also practicing Ma'thurat. much of what i said earlier contain in Ma'thurat. try also make Istighfar a lot. syaitan hate those who always doing Taubat.

now on Mei's part. first kak Aliya must asked her to remove all kind of idols, scriptures, images, charms, spells, all things associated with Shirk from her house and body. remove all kind of offerings because thats one of the reasons of disturband, as jin want Mei to providing them free meals.

teach her to perform proper Istinja', as traces of urine and feces in one's body creating attention from syaitan and jin. this is important because Taharah is the door to our Ibadah to be accepted.

i have an experiance in this kind of cases involving a filipina girl. her family was a practising medium in philippine, and she the one supposed to inherited the job. she start getting a disturbance when she converted to Islam and its getting worse by days. we teach her how to pray and some Zikr, and she practising it for almost a year but problem still persist. until she herself found out about Istinja' and start doing it. after that her problem ceased. later she asking us why don't we teach her about Istinja'?. we really forget to tell her about that, as we take it for granted assuming she already know it.

just try what i said. if there still problem, we try to find other solution later.

    Wasalam

  5. Waalaikumussalam Pieces, Shamsudin, Nani & Azlan,
InsyaAllah I will advise Mei and ask Kak Nor to check on her. I've asked her to play the surahs Kak Nor and I recited for her to record in her player. We've taught her wuduk but not Istinjak as we didn't have enough time to teach many things within 6 hours.Mei had said that she has avoided eating pork because she'd get headaches after consuming it, and she's already covering her exposed neck. Let's pray that she'll be all right.

  6. Assalamualaikum

good news she start avoiding pork. but no wonder she being disturbed. she still never learn proper Istinja'. all her Wudhu' seem useless as its null and void - 'tak sah'. if we open Kitab Fiqh Ibadat the first bab is Taharah and in bab Taharah Istinja' come first before Wudhu'. our Fuqaha' doesn't done that for nothing.

i want to something for her. Kak Aliya, may you asked her to play Surah Al Baqarah recitation. syaitan and jin will shunned her homes for three days if we reading whole Surah Al Baqarah in our home. there is Hadith in Sahih Muslim about this.

second asked her to remove any dog(s) if any from her house. our Rasul S.A.W. asked Sahabi to remove dog from his house once because Malaikat Rahmat will avoid any house with dog in it. if that house has no Rahmat, jin will inhabited that house.

third asked her to paste what we called 'Surat RasullulLAh S.A.W.' i don't know if you know it already, but there is a story of one Sahabi being disturbed by jin in his house. when he tell Rasul S.A.W., heasked Sayyidina Ali to write this latter and asked this Sahabi to paste it in his house.

forth asked her to remove any kind of drawing, photos, scruptures puppute, doll, etc of any kind of living things, especially human and animal. this so true if such thing is perfect in shape of living things of 'cukup sifat'.

    Wasalam.

  7. salam,

Syaitan or otherwise, this is indeed only a test of faith: Percayalah dgn sepenuh hati and say, cukuplah Allah bagiku sebagai penolong dan pelindungku!

She is a new Muslim, we do not want to risk her thinking that this or that ayat will make bad spirits go away. She (and we) need to remember that our absolute dependence is on Allah. Kalau kita fikir doa kita untuk dilindungi kurang hebat tanpa ayat-ayat tertentu, that in itself boleh merosak akidah.

But I do agree cleanliness is key: both the physical and the soul (through istighfar).

This post is late, as I've just read it today but I hope all is well now.

  8. Assalamualaikum

dear pencil, if you sick you will go to doctor for medicine. did you trust that doctor cure you? i guess the answer is NO. its our effort of Ikhtiar.

all what i told earlier about such Surah or Ayat is BASEB on HADITH SAHIH. its not what others fabricated. its for our Ikhtiar. the rest we must put our Tawakkal solely on Allah.

thats we must clarify to her.

yes we forbidden to fabricated religious matters. but we also forbidden to deny what is there on this matters. if we think our reasoning is better than Hadith of our Rasul S.A.W. then that is 'rosak' Aqidah.

next time don't jump into conclusion if you not sure. learn first. learn from Ulama' as many you can find. Ilmu is vast.

forgive me for me harsh words

    Wasalam.

  9. WS Azlan.

The message wasn't meant for anyone in particular, least of all you. I was just saying we should be careful because she is new to Islam and would not have memorised long ayats etc and we don't want her to get the wrong idea (that without doing certain things her efforts are rendered useless), that is all.

I wasn't denying any truth, neither did I think my reasoning was superior than the Messenger of God's PBUH (what gave you that idea?)

I am always learning. I thank you for your comment but you WERE harsh.

  10. Assalamualaikum wbt.

When some one just became Muslim, the most important things to do is teaching her the right faith, creed, anything which can confuse her, must be avoided.

2nd to Azlan, where is the evidence for "Surat Rasulullah". We must know that Islam prohibits so-called 'tangkal'. Same if we hang Quranic verse etc.

All things related to Islam must be based on al-Quran and authetic hadeeth.

And if it is exist in both, we must ensure that either it is a priority to teach her all those things now or we should focus on her basic faith.

  11. Salam to all,
    Interesting...
I agree with Abu Usamah - anybody who converts or want to learn Islam, should start with the Aqidah - one hadith (not sure about the status - Hasan/Sahih/etc.) "Beginnning of Deen/religion is to know (maqrifat) Allah". In Sirah Ar-Rasul, we can find the Prophet SAW teach the sahabat to know Allah first, as in the case of Sy. Bilal r.h.when he were tortured by the musyrikin, where he uttered "Ahadun, ahadun" (Allah the One and only). But of course, as Islam is complete now, we can teach the new Muslims Islam as a total, a whole & integrated - aqidah, ibadah, akhlak, muamalat, munakahat - together, but starting from the very basics, slowly till the advance. Wallahu a'lam.

n.a. - please don't argue among us Muslims harshly, we can discuss politely & wisely. tq.

  12. Waalaikumussalam Azlan, Pencil, Masri,
Sorry for the late reply. I've been following your comments but had chosen to remain neutral to see how the arguments develops. Alhamdulillah, you've proven me right - able to give your points without resorting to finger-pointing, etc which are rampant in some blogs? You know that I don't filter your comments?
Azlan, I haven't heard about Surat Rasulullah. Mind enlighting us about this in your blog?
I don't want to pressure Mei to opt for a drastic change when she isn't ready. Your suggestions are good but may scare some people who are not ready for such radical changes. It's bad enough that Malays like to stress on the haram haram haram issue when Islam is more about halal than haram?

Please continue to pray for Mei, thanks

about surat of Rasulullah saw, hadeeth scholars had proven it as not authentic etc. You can read about it here:

  15. Assalamualaikum,

Interesting issue. Love the debate because it will bring to a good conclusion.

I learned before I reverted that there are many things to learn in Islam and it is impossible to learn all in a very short time. Everyone have their own limit. Luckily I study a lot before I reverted and learned a lot from my mistakes. Lets us all learn from mistakes. I did a lot of mistakes and learned from it. One thing for sure that I learned is do not speculate or tell anything without prove. Do not listen or swallow whole any info that people tell if there is no prove. Even if it is an alim person, ulamaks, ustaz etc.(even if it from me) INVESTIGATE FIRST BECAUSE WE ARE HUMAN AND HUMAN MAKE MISTAKES.

I agree with Pencil. Dont push her too hard UNLESS if she can handle it. Make things easy for her. I remember I started of by saying 'Bismillah' when I do anything. Eating, closing door, open door, start walking. (not in toilet)

I wont dare to say that its a jin or syaitan's work. Why? Because I have no prove of so. Nightmare? Try sleeping on the right. Science shows that it is easy to get nightmare even if we sleep on our back or to our left. There is scientific evidence just that I have forgotten bout it.

Overslept can cause us to get a dream too. I sleep on the floor (carpet) so that I can wake up morning. Hahaha. I got so used to it that I do not need a bed anymore. Just a thin sheet will do.

    Sahih Muslim
    Book 029, Number 5619:

Abu Salama replied: I used to see (such horrible dreams) that I fell ill. I saw Abu Qatada who also said: I used to see dreams which made me sick until I heard Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: Good dreams are from Allah, so if any one of you sees which he likes he should not disclose it to one but whow he loves, but if he sees something which he does not like he should spit on his left side thrice and seek refuge with Allah from the mischief of the satan and its mischief (i. e. of the dream), and he should not relate it to anyone, then it would not harm him.

This is easier to do. Heheheheh.
    Seek refuge from Allah.

    Sahih Bukhari
    Volume 7, Book 69, Number 527:

    Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah:

Allah's Apostle said, "When night falls (or when it is evening), stop your children from going out, for the devils spread out at that time. But when an hour of the night has passed, release them and close the doors and mention Allah's Name, for Satan does not open a closed door. Tie the mouth of your water-skin and mention Allah's Name; cover your containers and utensils and mention Allah's Name. Cover them even by placing something across it, and extinguish your lamps. "

This is also easy to do. I used to practice this up till now.

Well cleanliness is also important just istinja' and wu'duk. Make it easy. :)

Anyone have tafsir for hadiths? I need it. Not translation of hadiths but the tafsir. If can know of any good ones, please tell me where I can buy it.

    Thanks.

Thanks for the information, Masri. Yes, as I've thought, such stuff are not authentic, so we should always check before we spread it, because we are responsible for everything we pass around.
ahong, I don't know any tafsir for hadith although I've been invited to weekly tafsir classes. Let me know if you found one :)
Azlan, it's all right. We're not perfect, that's why we're here to learn from one another. Learn from mistakes and move on, insyaAllah as better Muslims :)
